The first few chapters were great. Then the author sped through the big moments. You get very little back story on the characters. when you finally get an answer to one very big question, it's vague and pretty ridiculous. Not worth buying, wish I could return it.
I didn't know what to expect from this story but I always love Skye Warren's writing ! Martial Arts and sex a great combination.
I love Skye Warren's books. But not this one ending in the middle of the book. And Anti Hero with the sex reversal between the main characters. should have been warned. About the. Domme theme.
This book was okay. For some reason I thought it was about a MMA fighter, but it is about a karate (I think?). Anyway, not as hot and exciting as I hoped.
Abe was hot (except for the goatee) and Paris seemed nice, there was just a lack of character development. The book was pretty short which might explain why I just never felt any connection to anything about this story.
Having read some other works by this author, I decided to also give this one a shot. Unfortunately, it really didn't grab me. I think Skye Warren writes better when she sticks to alpha males who are limited in their emotional expression. This hero and heroine lacked something - too sweet, too eager...whatever. Didn't enjoy it, couldn't finish it, returned it.
Technically fine, so others may see it very differently.
This is a short novella that had a lot more promise than it lived up to. I liked the story line (hot mixed martial hottie falls in lust) and enjoyed the writing but the characters and story could have been developed so much more. I also felt like the ending was very rushed. I understand that novellas are limited in scope because of the smaller size but this book would have benefited from several more pages. For a free read it wasn't bad but it could have been a lot more. I have enjoyed other books by this writer and would read her again.
I tried to like this one as much as her others and it just fell flat for me. We knew he was going to win (he did) and we knew he would have to beat the bad guy (he did). We knew she had a problem with fighters and the life that she would have to overcome (in about 30 seconds and for no clear reason). It wasn't steamy. It wasn't dark. The characters were one dimensional and immature. This is a 5-star writer but not this time.
Below the Belt was a very enjoyable read from Skye Warren. She takes the reader inside the world of martial arts where it's both exciting and dangerous. The characters, Abe & Paris, were captivating and I loved them together. The secondary characters were also a nice addition to the story.
The author also threw in a dash of humor into this story which I enjoyed. The sex was hot, the dialogue was natural, and the story flowed smoothly. There was never a dull moment in this book. Now I'm curious about Addie & Raphael. I would love to read their story!
In all, Below the Belt was a fun & sexy escape into the world of martial arts. I enjoyed the story & characters very much & would definitely look more into this author's work.
